Geek rap: Can I get behind it? I don’t know

LilleLeslie and the Ly’s. Dan Deacon. Girl Talk. Even Milwaukee’s Juiceboxxx.

Unlike their Brazillian counterparts (CSS, Bonde do Role) who can wear spandex, felt-tipped pen racoon eyes and still be f**kable-hot, the Midwestern equivalents of 1990s rapper Snow have no real cool factor to redeem themselves with, other than they’re so effin nerdy and don’t care that people think they’re nerdy that it’s cool.

Fat, jiggly thighs, sweaty pits, dorky glasses, gem sweaters, pasty white torsos — what does this all matter? They’re making music on keytars and synths, making party jamz with funky dance moves, and giving it their all night after night….

Leslie Hall of Leslie and the Ly’s is also a regular on the Nick Jr. show “Yo Gabba Gabba.” She’s pretty awesome in it. Check the kids in the gold spandex!!!

Unfortunately, while I applaud the effort I may be too uncool to get with this program. The music is helluv amusing and the live shows are amazing. But for some reason it’s not really the stuff that touches my soul, even though I really want it to. Um, so really, it’s not them, it’s me.
